What actually happens at a boiler service?
Forty-five minutes, a flue gas analyser and a few panels off. Here's what you're paying £75 for.

A boiler service isn't a quick look and a sticker. It's a set of checks laid out by the manufacturer and the gas safety rules, and every one has a reason.
The checks
- A visual inspection of the boiler, casing and seals
- Checks that the boiler operates and shuts down safely
- Flue and ventilation checks
- Gas pressure and gas rate measured
- Combustion analysis, which shows how cleanly the boiler is burning
- Key components inspected for wear
Standard or strip-down?
A standard service (£75) covers the routine checks. A strip-down (from £120) opens up and cleans parts like the burner and heat exchanger where needed. Older boilers and boilers that haven't been serviced in years usually benefit from one.
What you get afterwards
A service report and an honest conversation. If something's wearing out, you'll know before it fails, and if everything's fine, you'll hear that too.
Book your service in late summer or early autumn. You'll get your choice of dates before the first cold snap.
